One month down

and eleven long ones to go. Some part of me is pleasantly surprised that a whole month has gone by. The rest of me is completely bummed that I have eleven looooong months to go. Kea was saying last night that she was sad because her daddy was gone. I told her that is was OK to be sad and miss her daddy. I told her (truthfully) that I was sad ( Read more... )

We are making a paper chain with Kea. We haven't had the chance to yet; I'm hoping to get to it this weekend. Pages on a calendar (especially so many!) lose their meaning to a four-year-old, sadly. Each night, we are going to take a link off before bedtime. It's going to be a huge chain, but the pictoral representation should register better with her than a calendar, especially a calendar with a target date so far out....

Would it be easier for her to understand if you told her he was in Iraq defending people from the bad guys? Give her something to be proud of, you know?

Probably not. She's very egocentric (that's natural at four), and at this point in time, her birthday is forever away. Hehe. Every conversation she has with daddy is "when are you coming home?" and "are you coming back soon?" or "you are going to be gone for forever!" That has to rip at his heart. :(

No, he is not. That is a solo project at this point. I asked some family members to wait longer to take their trip out here, so that other family members could be here, and the ones that were going to be here are now not going to be here, so it is just Kea and myself.

Thank you for the call yesterday. Some days here are just rougher than others. But thank you for reminding me that I am loved and that others are thinking of me. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy. :)

It's rough, but you are doing fantastic. Keep your chin up, and it'll be over before you know it.

*hugs*

Thank you. It's just some days are harder than others. Some days, I'm able to bury it deeper and not focus on it; other days, it comes and hits you smack in the face. Hard to know what each day will be until it's here. Heh.
