Halloween is a dirty word
I forgot how strict private Christian schools can be.
We were not allowed to be shown to endorse Halloween to the point where my preschool teacher friends and I had to hide the fact that they throw an annual costume party. I understand not talking about it in front of students but there are teacher who would report us to the school board if they heard about it. To me that's just petty and un-Christian. There are different types of Christianity, we do not all need to wear long skirts and loose clothes to be "good." I have tattoos, dyed hair, wear makeup that's not natural and yes, sometimes skimpy clothing. It doesn't change the personal relationship I have with religion because that is dependent on what is inside, not how I look.
Sometimes I can understand why people have issues with religion.
That being said I am lucky to have such a good group of girls I've become friends with at work, they've pretty much adopted me. It's nice to have solid friends I can go to who understand the same problems I have at work. Not that I don't love my job, I do and I care very much about the kids but learning how to move through a new work environment is hard for me. I'm a pretty awkward person.
Being that I work at a Christian school I understand that many teachers are pulling for Mitt Romney (though I might write a post one day on how this is ironic, considering many Christians consider Mormonism to be a cult). But I have an issue with telling children their parents are "bad" if they don't vote a certain way. I really have an issue with it if it upsets one of my students. One of the teachers I works with has been lecturing the children about the evils of voting for Obama. And I got dragged into her mess because I thought it would be fun and cute for the kids to have their own little mock election. I just don't understand how hard it is to stop when your supervisor sits you down and explains why you can't be doing this.
