Fell down went boom. And also, Yuletide?

ONE THING: Soooooo what happened is, a couple days ago I sprained my ankle. I was trudging home with a million other worker ants, took a bad step somewhere among the terrible uneven concrete across the street from my workplace, and BLAMMO I and my stuff were sprawled all over the road. In the rain. With a bunch of people standing over me ( Read more... )

life stuff, argh, yuletide

Nooooo. Poor ankle! Poor secondary embarrassment, too! (I mean, if you have to injure your ankle, couldn't it have been in a nice, private place? This is what I always think.) But, I am very glad it's not putting you on crutches, and that people were nice--there really is no reason for the secondary embarrassment, or course--and yay for alternative means of transport. Boo for the super long days, though--gah! I hope your ankle continues to improve and we have no more such incidents.

Yuletide! \o/

Yeah--I really appreciate people being attentive and willing to help, I do. They asked me if I wanted an ambulance, they retrieved my scattered stuff, etc. A very nice man walking his very nice dog ended up supporting me all the way into the cab. But there's always this mandatory writhing-around period right after I fall, where I just have to wait for the pain to peak and (hopefully) subside, before I can judge whether I can move it, whether it'll be safe for me to try to get up, etc. And that takes time. Which means that I was sitting on the rainy ground talking disjointedly through clenched teeth-- "...Just give me...a minute...", while everyone watches. Sigh.

I suspect I will be hyper aware of the placement of my feet for the next long while. It really slows me down, alas, but better safe than sorry.

Yuletide! I am glad to have an extra stick with which to poke my writer-brain back to life--it's felt very sluggish and blocked up lately.

Poor ankle! I am so sorry to hear that, hope it gets better soon *hugs*

There could be space in my noms for Resjeholdet, I've been mulling too. I think it'll be Hail Caesar, Zoo Quest and then it could be that (also want 'The Nice Guys' movie but I'm betting someone else will pick that, plus some regulars that again I'm confident will get picked)

My ankle thanks you for the good thoughts. :D The weekend of rest and care has been very good for it. I could wish for a longer weekend before I have to get back up on it in earnest, but then, I always wish for longer weekends even when both feet are 100%.

Re: Rejseholdet, that's a kind offer, but as it turns out unnecessary! I saw someone posting in a comment thread on one of the yuletide admin journals, asking the mods about the intricacies of character selection in nominating both the Aubrey-Maturin book series and Master & Commander. So if those are taken care of, I can easily nominate Rejseholdet, Shetland, and maybe Black Sails if nobody else expresses an intention to do so. \o/

I finally saw Hail, Caesar not too long ago, and really enjoyed it. What do you think you'd like to write or read for it?

Ah cool *g*

Hobie Doyle/Laurence Laurentz, all the way to the trash pit and back again *g* I just... I love Hobie and obviously its canon that Laurentz sleeps with his male stars, and he's just been LEFT by Gurney which the movie doesn't even address, and yeah, something where he has to fall off his high horse a little with Hobie, but Hobie is a sweetheart who helps him heal, with bonus Carlotta/DeeAna if possible, has been what I've yearned for since June really... *sighs* Not that I've thought about it over-much or anything *g*

There are only 2 fics in existence, and one of them is Hobie/Laurence and lovely, but obviously I want more! Definitely a Yuletide sort of fandom.

Aww, yeah! Poor Laurence. And I can't remember if Laurence will end up knowing exactly where Burt went and what he was doing--if so, he's bound to be shocked, and if not, all he'll have is Burt's mysterious disappearance. Not sure which would be worse for him. It would be nice to see him unbend enough to actually be able to lean on Hobie. And I bet Hobie has been propositioned before, casting-couch-wise (which, when he heard that, would I assume make Laurence feel worse). But in this case there would be an actual connection. ♥____♥

Catching up on LJ and ugh. So sorry about your ankle. I had the misfortune of doing the same thing to my ankle TWICE. same ankle. It's still attached so that's good? There was a goblin on the last step of those stairs and no one can tell me otherwise.

Anyway! Hope your ankle is feeling much better! No more tripping!

Aw thank you! I'm sorry to hear that you have had this experience. Because it suuuuuucks.

Goblins, definitely. I mean, the sidewalk where I tumbled was uneven, but I've walked over worse patches!

It's feeling tons better, and I'm back to my walking-to-Metro commute. Although I'm still walking around kind of paranoid, and watching my feet and the ground a lot. Looking for goblins, I guess. :D
