Ok, so: What is the deal with that 'Rehab' song? I'd swear it's some sort of parody - a dig at Paris Hilton or something - except all the internet writing about Amy Winehouse seems to be perfectly serious. That song can't be for real. Can it? (I also happen to find the song really obnoxious-sounding, which may contribute to my impression that it must be making fun of someone. What can I say.)

i like it because i feel like she's making rather black fun of herself. it's certainly supposed to be funny, but i also think it's supposed to be true. and the sixties diva style she sings it in only adds to that -- it's a love song, like most of those are, but instead it's about her love for her codependent relationship and her alcoholism. and the "no i won't go" theme, which would normally be the aretha-i'm-an-empowered-lady chorus, is instead just ironic and sad, in no small measure because of the recent rash of pitiful rehab-bound starlets. what can i say. i've always had a taste for upbeat songs on dark topics.
