TEMERAIRE, LIGHT OF MY LIFE.

I'm on vacation miles away from any bookstore and I foolishly only brought the first two books with me but HASDLFGHDFLAKHF BOOK SERIES OF MY SOUL, BASICAMENTE. Your Mary-Sue fits in extremely well with all the ridiculous Mary-Sue fantasies about growing up as bff with Emily Roland I'm telling myself right now. Have you read any other fic for this fandom? It seems like there should be more, because it is basically perfect, and yet I've only found a distressingly low amount of fanworks.

(also apparently Chad Ochocinco just transferred to the New England Patriots? Everyone who I'm on vacation with in Boston is terribly excited, but all I could think was "how will this affect The District?" I have good priorities.)

aaaaahahahahaha YES so good. I didn't like the later books as much, but that may just be because there were fewer lovingly detailed descriptions of clothing? WHATEVER MANG, I JUST LOVE GOOD WORLDBUILDING. I really haven't read much fic for it though! I don't know where the fic is! My theory is that people are nervous bc naomi novik has such a prominent web/fandom presence. it could make one Self-Conscious. I drew some fanart of it back in the day and was momentarily self-conscious myself, and then i was like: if i had a book, i would want ALL THE TERRIBLE FANART. ALL OF IT.

fndjskndsjk i know, about ochocinco! i was out to dinner and the news came on the teevee, and the commentators were all "he's gonna have to cut down on his twitter use and stop running his mouth off," and i was like....OVER MY DEAD BODY.

fndsjkn thank you! Ugh I just love writing Stephen. ugh but this is one of my favorite conversation/arguments on this earth -- do you really disagree? I find both Sophie and Diana -- and Clarissa -- to just be lazy characters. Like, they're all shorthand and no coherent drive or motivation or recognizable human emotion. and for me, the biggest problem is that none of them have anything resembling a sense of the ridiculous. I mean, O'Brian never loses his sense of humor, you know? Even when he's just describing someone tying a rope or eating a meal, every other sentence is wry and perfectly-observed and hilarious. Until he's gotta have a lady talking, and then it just flies out the window. They're all either 1. flirty whores or 2. shrews or 3. bland and earnest, except Diana, who is both 1 and 2, and who I guess is funny in the sense that she can be sarcastic and cruel? but none of them are ever just delighted with the absurdity of things, the way Stephen and Jack are. the way, for God's sake, even the random sailors who barely get a ( ... )

ughghghghg I know. It pisses me off so much because he's SO FUCKING GOOD. of all those oxbridge dudes who palled around and wrote YA lit, T.H. is for me the best by miles -- OaFK is one of my favorite books, hands down, and it's so beautiful and erudite and funny and perfect for children, ughghghg. But then he has to write ladies! grrrrrrr T.H. if you'd only had a decent therapist, what a writer you could've been.

oh, i did enjoy that sue. i am pretty whorish about o'brain/temeraire crossovers in any case, but this is most excellent. Stephen would be so very good taken in conjunction with a clever, freethinking woman.

(i cannot really find it in me to dislike Diana, although i often dislike it when Stephen is in the throes of Diana, so to speak. and i honestly like Sophie. if only, if only.)

hurghhh i know, o'brian is trying so hard to write them, I JUST WISH EITHER OF THEM HAD A SENSE OF HUMOR AND/OR A SENSE OF SELF. ;_; can you imagine hanging out with any o'brian ladies? because i can't! they don't seem like people! it seems like that would be totally awful! i want to be friends with everyone in those books and it annoys me that i don't want to be friends with either sophie or diana. hrrrghhh.
