Fuyuumi Shoko lay on one side of the large bed that suddenly seemed too small and listened to Hino Kahoko breathe. She turned her head and studied the violinist’s profile in the faint light of the book. Kahoko’s lips were parted slightly, and Shoko resisted the urge to reach over and touch them, even though she longed to find out of they were as soft as they looked.
Kahoko shifted in her sleep, turning towards Shoko. The younger girl squeaked softly and jerked away as much as the bed would allow, and it still was far too close.
It was, perhaps, the ultimate proof of the unfairness of life.
