Dear Robert,
I want you to take a moment to lock your door. Take a drink of water from the bottle on your desk. I know what has happened is upsetting, but you need to calm down before you short out your home’s electrical system.
I’m sure you’re wondering who I am, to be telling you what to do.
I’m your father.
I’ve just spent the last hour looking at those words, trying to find a way to explain things to you. Why your mother continues to keep you and your sister in the dark as to your paternity.
I suppose the only explanation I can give you is that you were safer not knowing.
And now you need to know, which is why I’m writing this letter.
By the time you read this, I’ll have already taken care of the fire and the boys you, as my father would put it, ‘zapped’. They won’t remember what happened.
Included with this letter is a key to a storage locker, and directions on how to get there. In that locker you will find several very helpful books and a list of people who can aid you in learning to control your powers.
I am sure you’ve noticed that I haven’t sent a letter to your sister about her powers or heritage. I’m afraid I’m taking the coward’s way out and leaving telling her to you.
Until we meet-
Robert Stephen Altman-Kaplan
