Jono was in a surprisingly good mood as he surveyed the music room, his hands on his hips and a grin on his face. For the next hour, this was his domain, where he would impart knowledge and mold the minds of the next generation of music lovers.
It was, he had to admit, a bit of a power trip.
Jay Guthrie was the first student to arrive.
Teacher and student started at each other for a long moment before Jay sat down, his wings draped over the back of his chair. He smiled slightly. “Seen Paige yet?”
“Haven’t been looking for her,” Jono informed the winged boy, popping a CD into the player on his desk.
“Mm. So, how did it feel to punch Warren?”
Jono sighed, shaking his head. “It was part of my cover story to get Weapon X to take me. Nothing more.”
“That’s your story and you’re sticking to it?”
“Exactly so.”
More students filed in, laughing and chatting and taking their seats, brining an end to all conversations about the punching of Warren Worthington III. The little group even included a few students from his own squad - Victor, Sarah, and Alani. The trinity sat in the back of the classroom, talking quietly amongst themselves.
The bell rang, but only a few voices stilled. Jono waited a few minutes, standing at the front of the room, then pressed play on the CD player. Tommy blared out of the speakers, cutting through the conversations. Jono smiled brightly and paused the CD. “Good morning! I’m Mr. Starsmore, and I’d like to welcome you to Music Appreciation.” He moved through the room, dropping the class syllabus on each desk. “As you can see, we’ll be starting the semester out with Operas…”
