“So,” Vic said coldly as he looked at Jassayn through the quarantine room’s window, “when were you going to tell me about this ‘flu of yours?”
Jassayn squirmed under Vic’s steely green gaze, not meeting his eyes. “I did not know humans could be infected. I am sorry.”
“Are there any other things I need to know about that you’ve neglected to mention? STDs, stuff like that?”
Jassayn shuffled his feet, his aura decidedly pink. “No. I haven’t… I mean, I don’t…”
“Great. Dr. McCoy said he was going to get a sample from you so he can work on a cure or a vaccine. Something.”
“The Elders would never allow it. We’ve always relied on the ‘flu for a population boost, and that is important now more than ever, with so few of us left.”
“Well, you weren’t exactly helping boost the population, now where you?” Vic paused, his eyes narrowing. “Were you? Tell me you didn’t knock me up!”
“Please, do not be ridiculous,” Jassayn snorted. “Neither one of us is biologically capable of carrying offspring, so I can assure you, I did not ‘knock you up’. And the Elders are almost as upset with me about this as you are.”
