“So what’s this I’ve been hearing about you and Bobby Altman-Kaplan, Miranda?”
“This is why I don’t hang out with you, Val,” Miranda sighed. “It always turns into a gossip session about someone’s love life.”
“It’s not a ‘gossip session’,” Valeria protested. “I’m just curious. So?”
“You know what they say about curiosity and cats, don’t you?”
“Well, I’m a Richards. It’s encoded in my DNA to poke things with sticks to see what they do. No talk before I decide to go to Wong for answers.”
Miranda smiled into her coffee, not actually looking at Valeria. “There’s nothing to talk about. He’s very… sweet.”
Valeria arched her eyebrows, her lips turning up in a bemused smile. “Sweet? Bobby?” That doesn’t sound right. Are you sure it’s not Jeff pretending to be his brother? He’s the sweet one. Bobby’s the creepy one.”
“I’m sure.”
“Huh.” Valeria sat back, digesting this information. She hadn’t have much contact with any of the Altman-Kaplan siblings of late, but her impression of the oldest boy was anything but ‘sweet’, unless one was describing his dietary habits.
“He’s very intense, and a little weird, but very sweet,” Miranda insisted.
