Jono held up the case of Guinness as a peace offering and said, “Say the word, Christian, and I’m gone, but I figured you might want some company.”
Christian looked at his teammate through the door for just long enough to make Jono squirm before opening the door just enough for him to squeeze inside. Jono cocked his head slightly and arched his eyebrows as he realized what was playing on the stereo. “Never would’ve pegged you for a Meat Loaf fan.”
“I’m not,” Christian said, taking a bottle and opening it. “Christine-” He trailed off, taking a long pull and making a face. “It’s warm.”
“It’s supposed to be.” Jono took a drink himself. “I thought your sister was into hip hop.”
“She was.” He took another drink. “But when we were kids, we snuck out to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and she decided then and there that she had to have everything by Meat Loaf, no matter how old and white he was.” Christian almost smiled. “She made me swear to never tell a soul.”
“Couldn’t risk her rep.”
The two men drank warm beer for a while in silence while Meat Loaf gleefully sang of the virtues of bad girls.
“She was always getting involved in stupid shit,” Christian said bitterly, breaking the silence.
