“Am I going to lose my mind, too?” Bobby asked.
Rowena glanced up from the counter top she was scrubbing and tucked a few stray black hairs behind her hear. “You’re the precog, you tell me. And keep chopping those carrots.”
Bobby twisted the knife in his hands, watching light play across the blade. “I see a billion possibilities. In some of them, I do, in some of them I don’t. But all the really powerful reality warpers... Jamie Braddock, the Rasputins, Wanda... they went mad.”
“Was it the power that made them mad?” Rowena asked. “Or was it the madness that gave them power?” She turned to face her apprentice, looking at him thoughtfully. “Our magic works because we believe it will. We are only as powerful as we believe ourselves to be. A simplification, I know.” She gave Bobby the smallest hint of a smile. “But the truth is often simple. Now get back to work.”
