James Dean was very good at smiling. He had a smile for every occasion, and each of those smiles was perfect. He used them a lot, so his mobile face held them very easily.
He didn’t drop his ‘I’m a harmless, affable puppy’ smile until he had Prince Octavian alone. “Speaking for the rest of the Imperial Family, if you ever, ever hurt Cera’al, we will hunt you down and gut you like a trout.” He tucked his hands into his pockets and slouched like his famous namesake. “She’s a very delicate girl.”
Octavian inhaled deeply, puffing up a little. He opened his mouth to offer the Skrull prince a scathing retort, but something in the look on James’ face made him think better of it. At least, for the moment. “I believe the princess is more than capable of taking care of herself.”
“Of course she can. She’s an Altman-Kaplan. But we’ll always be there to watch her back.”
