“You stupid, stupid bastard,” Victor said weakly to no one at all. Kirby sat beside the bed and whined, causing Victor to roll onto his side and reach out to touch the coyote. “So stupid.”
“He thought it was worth dying for,” Billy said, holding out an iPod. “He sent a message to Vizh right before...”
Victor helped Kirby crawl onto the bed and wrapped his arms around Amadeus’ pet. “He should have just gotten out,” he whispered, burying his face in Kirby’s coarse, sandy fur.
“He wanted you to be safe,” Tommy said, tossing Kirby’s leash onto the bed. “Listen to the damn message and take the beastie for a walk, because I’m sick of doing it.”
