Paige leaned back in the rickety chair and turned to Emma. “I never thought I’d hear Jono sing.”
“Having heard him both on CD and live, I must say that the recording loses something. Are you going to talk to him?” Emma asked.
“Came all this way. It’ll be nice to see some of the old gang after so long away,” Paige said. “And since everyone else is...” She shrugged. “I spent the last two years in another dimension. I need to see something familiar.”
“Jubilee’s here too,” Emma said. “A few things have changed since you were away.”
“Can’t have changed that much,” Paige said with a little smile, craning her head to look for her former teammate. “Oh, I see her - oh my God.”
Emma turned her head and arched a perfect eyebrow. “Well,” she sniffed, “they could have sent an e-mail or something. I shall have to find something appropriate to send as a gift.” She stood up and waved Jubilee over. The former mutant waddled over, all smiles.
“Paige, ohmygosh! When did you-”
Paige looked down at Jubilee’s swollen belly, then up at her face. “When did this happen?”
“About seven months ago, give or take. Wanna touch it? Everyone else does.”
Paige stared some more at the belly, then at the ring on Jubilee’s finger. “When do I get to meet the lucky guy and threaten him with harm if he ever hurts you?”
Jubilee coughed, looking at Emma. “You didn’t tell her before you brought her here?”
“Told me what?” Paige asked. “What - oh. Oh my God. You and Jono? Oh my God.”
“You should have told her,” Jubilee said sharply.
“It wasn’t my place,” the telepath said, far too sweetly.
