“Isn’t anyone else going home for summer vacation?” Paige asked, shoving the last of her bags into the trunk. Everett opened the car door and leaned on it, looking thoughtfully at the school looming over them.
“I don’t think the others have anywhere else to go,” he said after a lengthy pause. “I mean… yeah, Monet’s got her dad, but they never call each other or anything, and it’s the same with Jono. Angelo’s family thinks he’s dead, Jubilee’s an orphan, Penny… God only knows what’s going on there. I’m surprised you’re not dragging Jono home with you again.”
Paige glanced at a window, where she caught a flash of movement that might have been the telepath in question. “Thanksgiving didn’t go so well, so…”
Sean bounded out of the school like he was being chased by the hounds of hell. “Right we’re off! In, in!” he said quickly.
