Bobby’s black eye was something of a surprise. The disagreeable look on Becca’s face was not.

“I’m not going to the Winter Formal,” she said flatly, glaring first at her brother, then at her father. “Mike and I broke up.”

“That’s horrible, sweetheart,” Ted said, keeping his jubilation to himself. He didn’t like or trust that boy.

“Bobby slept with him.”

Uh-oh.

Ted turned an appropriately disapproving look on his oldest son. “Robert Stephen.”

“I know you put him up to breaking us up, Daddy.”

Uh-oh.

“I sure as all hell didn’t tell him to sleep with your boyfriend, Princess.”

“He was just after you because he’s into weird sex and he knows you’re a shape shifter,” Bobby said defensively. “He’s a born horn dog, and that should mean something, coming from me.”

“See?” Ted said, nodding to his son. “I in no way condone what he did, but we were just trying to protect you.”

Becca gritted her teeth and clenched her hands. “I picked him just for those traits, you jerk.”

That was the point where Ted’s brain shut down. By the time it rebooted, Becca had stomped back to her room, and Bobby was reassembling the now ruined couch that had been between her and her goal.

“What?”

“Becca wants to get laid. A perfectly reasonable thing,” Bobby explained in a matter of fact tone.

“Go to your room, Robert Stephan Altman-Kaplan, and do not come out until I tell you to.”
