Surdani sat at her father’s feet and watched and listened. Nobody questioned her right to be there… unlike Dramari. Since his refusal to enter the Terrigen Mists, he had become a pariah. People whispered about the madness that haunted her older brother and her uncle, when they thought no one could hear. And they watched her, thinking the thoughts that they did not dare to speak aloud.
Words had power. She knew that was well as anyone, and far better than most.
She could silence their words with just one of her own. It was fully within Surdani’s power to erase their fears, to make them accept Dramari as he was. It would be simplicity itself.
And that was why she kept her words to herself. To take control of their minds like that was to deny her people their will, their voice… that was the madness of her uncle. She would not go down that path.
Surdani looked up at her father and for a moment, she saw him watching her.
She would not disappoint him.
