“My life has become horribly Greek,” Victor said, finally verbalizing to Paras what he had been feeling for some time.
“What, with the buggery and stuff?” Paras asked, leading Victor to smack his arm. “Whaaat?”
“I’m the Echo to his Narcissus,” Victor explained. “It’s like he’s sucking up all my energy, and I’m getting nothing back.”
Paras considered the analogy for a moment, then asked, “Who and who?”
“You’re kidding, right?” He stared at the other boy’s face for a moment. “Okay, you’re not kidding. Echo was this nymph who fell in love with Narcissus, who was a beautiful man who didn’t even notice she was alive. Eventually, she ran off to this cave and faded away to the point where all she was was a voice that said Narcissus’ words back to him. Eventually, Narcissus spotted his reflection in a pool and fell in love with it, and he wasted away and became a flower.”
Paras blinked slowly. “The Greeks were very strange.”
