From his cell, Tom could see Kate draped across the bunk on the cell across the way, her cybernetic arm shattered and hanging at an odd angle. The low hum buzzing in his ears and the fact that he wasn’t making things blow up told him that the cell was probably surrounded by a power dampening field.
“Kate?” he whispered.
“She’s still out of it. Will be for a while, according to the medics.”
Tom jerked his head sharply towards the familiar voice. “What the fuck are you wearing, Ted?”
Ted looked down at his outfit, then touched the crown perched on his head. “I think you know exactly what I’m wearing,” he said quietly.
“Yeah,” Tom growled. “I saw Billy. How could you do this to us, you son of a bitch?”
Ted looked at him, his eyes seeming very tired. “You’re fighting another super human civil war. Eli’s dead, Cassie’s missing, and it’s all gone to hell.”
“And this is gonna fix things?” Tom demanded, standing up and pounding his fists on the clear front wall of the cell, making the energy field around it ripple. “Maybe if you two had actually stayed instead of running off, this wouldn’t have happened!”
Ted just watched him for a few more moments before leaving Tom with only the unconscious Kate for company.
