Bruce wadded up his uniform and shoved it into the back of his closet, slamming it shut with a growl. The door hung off the hinges at an awkward angle, and he growled again.
“Are you breaking my doors again?” his mother asked, standing in the doorway. She was still in her sharp going-to-court suit, her heels gangling from two fingers.
Bruce wiped his glasses with the edge of his shirt. “Did you know about Protean?” he asked calmly, wiping his Glasses on the edge of his shirt and putting them back on.
“Yes,” she admitted. “Will called me. Are you alright?” Jen approached her son, trying to keep the pity off her face.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“How did you not figure it out?” Jen replied. “You’ve known Rebecca for years, you knew she was a shape-shifter. You’re a smart boy. You just didn’t put the pieces together.”
“Everyone knew but me, Mom. They didn’t trust me enough to tell me the truth.”
“Bruce-”
“I quit the team, Mom. I don’t want to be lied to any more.”
