“So I heard you volunteered for this,” Hisako said, chewing on the end of her pen. She glanced at Victor, who was diligently filling out reports to be sent back to Earth.
“Mm-hm,” he said, watching Hisako covertly. “Why?”
“Just wondering why anyone would volunteer for this,” she said. “You and Julian... I think you might both be crazy.”
That gave Victor a moment's pause. “Julian volunteered for this?”
“Didn't he tell you?” Hisako laughed softly, noting Victor's dumbstruck look. “The moment he heard about this tour of duty, he was first in line to sign up.”
“You've gotta be kidding me.”
“Call the home base and ask if you don't believe me,” she said, smirking.
