Alice Hayes watched Tina Minoru do battle with the blender, explaining not for the first time that sometimes magic and technology mixed like water and potassium, and toyed with the remains of her wine cooler. “Gene had the cutest stutter when we first met,” she said. “He tried to come off as the strong silent type, but the moment he opened his mouth…” She giggled, then looked at the drink in her hands. “How many of these have I had?”
“Enough to actually get you to talk about your past,” Janet Stien noted. “Which is, for the record, an absolutely heroic amount. How are you still upright?”
“Mutant metabolism,” Alice explained smugly. “I could drink another of these. Are there any more?” she asked. “Leslie, are there any more drinks?”
“No,” Leslie Dean said bluntly, flipping through the script she’s brought with her. “Stacy’s on a run to get more, since you drank everything, but she’s not back yet.”
