Paige nearly jumped out of her skin as the motorcycle suddenly roared to life and sped away. Jubilee’s head jerked around, and her eyes followed the escaping vehicle. “Eh,” she said. “Jono probably just got hungry or something.”
There was a brief lull in the conversation before Paige asked, “That was Jono?”
“Now sporting Apocalypse chic,” Jubilee said. “You hadn’t heard?”
“I’ve been a little out of the loop,” Paige explained. “I went home for a while. What happened?”
“It’s not my story to tell,” Jubilee said. “Is Wolverine around? I was hoping to see him before I left.”
Paige shrugged her shoulders. “It’s hard to keep track,” she said. “Sometimes it seems like he’s in six places at once. Where’s Jono…?”
“Pick a place to eat, any place to eat. Since he got his mouth, he’s been eating non-stop. He’s gonna get fat if this keeps up.”

Jono watched Paige move through the diner over the top of his menu while pretending not to know she was there. Their eyes met for a moment, and with a little sigh, he put the menu down and beckoned her over. “Paige.”
The blonde slid into the seat across from him, inclining her head slightly. “Jono. You look… how’ve you been?”
Jono pursed his lips slightly. “Blew my face off again,” he said, ticking points off on his fingers, “got kidnapped by a bunch of descendants of Apocalypse, who gave me a new one…” He turned his head to the left, then to the right, showing off his restored profile. “Joined the New Warriors, then drove Jubilee out here when that imploded.” He paused, then said in a more somber tone, “I’m sorry, about Joshua I mean. He was a good kid.”
Paige’s eyes dropped to the table, and she nodded. “Thank you.”
Silence built up between them, only to finally be shattered by Paige saying, “You seem to be loosing your accent.”
Jono grinned slightly and chuckled. “What,” he asked, slipping into the Cockney accent that Paige had long associated with the former telepath, “you mean this accent, luv?” It slipped away again, and Jono shook his head. “It was a put on. My family was solidly upper class, Sunshine.” He laughed softly. “I think Sean was the only one who caught on, and that was because he was doing the same thing. Nobody,” he added, “really talks like that.”
Paige felt a flush rising to her face, and she cast around for a new subject. “I think the waiters are avoiding you.”
“Not surprising,” Jono admitted. “Not that it matters much. Haven’t made up my mind as to what I want yet. Lots of lost time to make up for.”
