Summary: He doesn’t know his parents.
Arystar stared up at the portrait looming over him with wide eyes, searching it for… something. Two people had posed for the portrait, a woman sitting and a man standing behind her, one hand on her shoulder. They seemed happy enough in the image. Both were dark haired and striking, and the man had a shock of white hair that fell over one eye the way Arystar’s did. The boy studied the woman’s face, trying to find some trace of himself in her. Of course, it was hard to tell what she really looked like; all there was was pigment on canvas, and people hired portrait artists who made the buyer look good.
His grandfather never spoke of Arystar’s parents. The boy knew they were dead, and had been so for so long that Arystar didn’t even remember them. All he’d ever known was Grandfather, the castle, and the portraits of ancestors long dead.
“Arystar! Come help me with the garden!”
