Jubilee dug her fingers in to the edge of the precipice she had chosen for her perch. She could hear the crunch-crunch-crunch of boots on dirt, coming towards her. No heartbeat to be heard yet, but the footsteps were too light to be Santo, so she knew one would reach her soon. But Jubilee wasn’t going to give whoever it was the chance to get closer. She let her fangs drop, hissing as she got swiftly to her feet and spun around. “I said I wanted to be alone!”
Jono stopped where he was, hands stuffed into his pockets and his shoulders slightly hunched, giving the overall impression of a large, rangy crow with his black jacket and dark clothes. His face was covered from below his nose to his chest, but Jubilee was willing to bet that if he took off his shirt, all she would see would be a rolling ball of fire, like a miniature star. His skin, what little of it she could see, was pale but not grey. He looked at her like he would have smiled if he could have, and that was just too much for Jubilee. She couldn’t help it.
She started to laugh. “Oh god, Jono, not again!”
Yeah, yeah, I’ve managed to blow a hole in my face again, and now I’ll leave you to your brooding. Jono started to turn, but Jubilee closed the distance and took his arm gently.
“You can stay,” she said, “if you tell me what happened.”
Not too sure about that myself, but I’ll tell you what I know.

“It’s like living on the edge of a knife. I’m surrounded by… food, but I know it’s not food, it’s people I care about, except Hisako who is a complete bitch, and everyone’s watching me like I’m gonna snap at any moment,” she said, her head resting on Jono’s thigh as she looked up at the night sky. “And they’re right.”
Jono combed his fingers through her hair. Maybe so, he said. But if Magneto can be forgiven despite being a bloody genocidal maniac, you can be forgiven for nibbling on people.
Jubilee rolled her eyes and snorted. “I’m not sure if that’s comforting,” she said.
