Nate Altman-Kaplan spun the chair he was sitting in around a couple of times, finally stopping to look at Robert. The magus looked back, unaging face an unreadable mask. Nate turned again, caching his reflection in the bulkhead. He was old, his face full of wrinkles and his hair gone white and thin. Another spin had him facing his brother again. “I’ve been planning my wake,” he announced. Robert blinked once, mask still in place. “The way you and Dad have been hovering around, I don’t have much longer, right?”
“Long enough,” Robert said.
“I was wondering,” Nate admitted. “never thought I would live this long.” He closed his eyes.
“You’ve done the right things to do.”
Nate’s eyes opened. “I didn’t ask,” he said.
“No, but it needed to be said. You’re a good man, Nate. Even if you are a creepy jackass.”
“I’m creepy?” the old man laughed. “You’re the unaging sorcerer with the emotional depth of a tea spoon. By the way, you’re giving the eulogy. I wrote it for you.”
“I don’t think that’s how it works,” Robert pointed out.
