Authors Notes/Disclaimer: I own nothing. This was written for
betterthanlegos a long-ass time ago for reasons that I can’t even remember. I apologize for this being so very, very late. Set in the Age of X universe.
Jonothon Starsmore didn’t believe in hope. Hope was for people who weren’t part of an endangered species that refused to just roll over and die the way the humans wanted them to. There was just a day to day existence eked out on this God forsaken rock, waiting for the day when the humans finally broke through and slaughtered them all.
And then… there was Jubilee. Somehow, in spite of everything, she managed to be… bright. A little spot of hope in an otherwise bleak and meaningless existence. And for some reason, she kept talking to him. Jubilee thought he was worldly, and wasn’t the least bit bothered by the fact that he was one of the most morose bastards to walk the stones of Sanctuary. It was, in fact, something he worked very hard at.
Jubilee made that pretty damn difficult, sometimes. Like just then, with her dragging him up to what was probably the highest point in Sanctuary.
“Come on, you’ll miss it.”
I’ve seen the sun rise before, pet.
Still, Jono let Jubilee drag him out to watch the sun come up without more than a token protest.
