Personality:

"Why did she get rid of Gil too?
Why didn't she kill me? If only she had killed me,

Gil could have become happy by himself."

Vincent never had a happy existence, and his own suffering has damaged him irreparably. He is the epitome of obsession and dissemblance. On the outside he's charming, soft-spoken, and friendly. He is really housing a corrupted man who shows no remorse in his own depravity. He is manipulative and two-faced, as well as very violent. He can often be seen stabbing stuffed animals (usually rabbits -- because he hates Alice for making fun of him as a child) with a sharp pair of scissors.

However, his violent nature was not unprovoked. As a child, not only was he abandoned, but he was manipulated and eventually witnessed a great tragedy. The greatest tragedy that their world has ever known. In fact, Vincent may very well be seen as the cause of this entire thing, and it is an incredible weight upon his shoulders.

It is quite true that Vincent hates women and would readily mistreat them. He mostly views them as objects, sleeping around with them or otherwise charming them to get things that he wants. The reason he finds little to no value in females is due to two women in particular. The first is his biological mother. Although we know little about her, we do know that she took Gilbert and Vincent to an exhibit and sold them, abandoning them there. This wounded Vincent far deeper than anyone could possibly fathom. The surprising thing is that it wounded him because she left Gilbert there as well, when he could have had a perfectly normal life, due to having two normal-colored eyes (golden eyes are presumably normal...in this manga). The second woman in his life is Miranda Barma. He has an intense hatred for the woman, but his fear of her seems to be even greater. It is slowly being revealed that she was the one who manipulated all of Vincent's evil deeds within the Tragedy of Sablier. Therefore, because of the impact these women have had, he has a very warped opinion of their gender, finding them annoying and utterly selfish.

Vincent is probably incapable of loving, being as it's not something he's even experienced himself to know what it's like. There is only one person that Vincent cares (term used flexibly) for though, and that is his older brother Gilbert. His feelings for his brother border on fixation. He claims that everything he has ever done has been for Gilbert's sake, and that he was only trying to help Gilbert. If he did not exist, his brother would live a happy life, or so he's convinced. It's difficult to find redeeming qualities in Vincent, but that may be it right there.

He is very well aware that Gil went through a lot of trouble for his sake, particularly because of the "destruction" his one red eye supposedly brought. He is also aware that Gil often thought about ditching his brother and leaving him behind, but could never bring himself to do it. This is something he manipulates Gil with to make sure his brother stays by his side. There are very few others who Vincent tolerates. You cannot say he really feels attachment to these people but they are not people that he despises. Jack Vessalius is the first... sort of. In childhood, Jack was kind to him and even complimented his wretched eye. Vincent once commented that anyone who made Gil make a certain face, and Jack act a certain way, was absolutely unforgivable. Over time, as Vincent is actually over one hundred years old, his attachment to Jack has turned to hatred, however. Ada Vessalius, who annoys the hell out of Vincent, is another person he finds himself (sort of) alright with. He was originally courting her for personal gain. It was shown later that he protects Miss Ada and cannot figure out why. Even his servant Echo questions him, to which he very quickly rebukes her. Vincent has trouble with emotions that he is not used to. The utmost of these is kindness. Finally, Elliot, his adoptive brother, and Leo, Elliot's servants, are people that he accepts. Elliot because he was accepting of Gilbert and Leo because he is a Baskerville and can help Vincent get what he needs.

One of his only "good" qualities is that he is very intelligent - as well as clever, cunning, and conniving, but anyway - and apparently also quite talented. He is a master of chess, and also shows more skill at things than both Gilbert, and Elliot. Vincent can even shoot a gun with extreme accuracy. He was better than Gil as a child after Gil had been practicing for ages, and Vincent only a couple months. He never seemed to get much praise for his talents, however. Even amongst their adopted siblings and parents, Vincent sort of drifted in and out as he pleased. To his siblings, before their deaths, he was only met with silent or subtle disapproval, and to his parents, well he was onto their schemes from perhaps the beginning. The Nightray family used him and he used them back. There is mostly loathing there. Or was.

The events of 100 years past have left a profound impression on Vincent, who to the day seems to be affected by them, and does not want others to know certain details of the events. What he did and continues to do kind of shapes who he is entirely, from the need to control, to the perpetual loneliness he is left with. Even with Gilbert at his side, Vincent is completely alone. He feels this, and is bitter for it - even so bitter that he despises himself and thinks nothing of his own demise.

Aside from being manipulative and violent, Vincent is moody and needs a specific order in his life to feel safe. He has no one to trust but himself and it's hard to trust someone that you despise. Thus, balance is imperative to him. When his world is tampered with, he becomes uncomfortable, and will blame the nearest person to him, even going so far as to hurt them (as shown with the way he hits Echo). All things considered, his behavior is a bit like that of a child. One hundred years has not been enough to draw him away from his childish tendencies. He needs to be recognized and loved, and he becomes furious when things do not go his way. While Vincent is capable of holding a normal (well, mostly) conversation, the best thing is to simply stay away from him, lest you catch his attention and make his scissor hand itch. He has a goal that he will get to by any means possible. It means death for Vincent, but for Gilbert, it would mean freedom at last. That's all that matters.

Extra:
Character Abilities: Vincent is a good shot with a pistol and excellent with sharp objects (as well as unabashed by torture). He also has two contracts with two separate Chains.

The legal contract is with Dormouse - Dormouse resembles that of the Alice in Wonderland character. It is a giant (much bigger than that picture) wind-up mouse who is always sleeping. Its ability is also to put others to sleep if the user of the chain touches their head. However, Vincent is bad at controlling Dormouse and the affects often backfire on him, which is why he can be found earlier in the series sleeping in random places or yawning. Dormouse is kind of...silly. At least, it's unknown if it can do anything else or if Vincent is only pretending that he is a silly goose with it.

The illegal contract is with Demios. Demios is a large skeletal ... goat thing with wings made of sharp bone which it uses to decapitate others. It is often referred to as "The Queen of Hearts", both for its ability and the fact that with its cloak on, it sometimes resembles the silhouette of a woman. Vincent however does not like the name Queen of Hearts for it. He has been contracted to Demios for longer than Dormouse but keeps it a secret. Neither chain is visible unless he calls on them (though Dormouse will float around if it puts Vince to sleep), though Vincent will have the mark of an illegal contractor on his chest.

Possessions: Probably his gun and scissors.
Anything else:

from the guide-
Likes: Gilbert, Break, scissors, sleeping
Dislikes: Break, carrots
