I haven't updated my journal for some time now and anyway I thought maybe I should write about something other than my RL problems so...
Ranting about True Blood (spoilerish of the season finale) and ranting and musings about Game of Thrones (spoilerish of the later books, Shae-related). Also flailing over Once Upon a Time.
Am I the only one who's beginning to feel disappointed with True Blood?
Like WTF is even going on? A vampire religious cult? Seriously? They're like hundreds years old! How can they buy into this shit? Also the Authority should have been all wise and mighty instead they acted like crazy, hysterical five-year-olds and died without putting up any real fight, wtf?
Why Eric is suddenly so loyal to Bill and hangs on his every word? Did I miss something? And why is Bill so damn important to begin with? He's like 150! He's not even a teenager by vampire standards!
What was the point of freeing Russel? I understand that he's a cool character (and I like him well enough) but the guy is a freaking psycho! How could anyone, let alone an old and (presumably) smart vampire as Salome, think that bringing him back would be a good idea? And he died in the end anyway.
The characters I still care about are Jessica, Sam, and Pam & Tara (finally! I've been waiting for this since forever, though it did feel a bit rushed to me). They seem to be the most sensible ones. Also I was very proud of Arlene this season.
Game of Thrones was a major disappointment for me mostly because I had expected so much, much more from it.
After they had followed the first book almost word to word I was shocked by all the changes in s2.
Sansa's arc is almost nonexistent. Are the people who only watch the TV show even aware that SanSan exists?
And they gave away Sandor's line to the Littlefinger AGAIN? It doesn't even make sense! When Sandor warned Sansa about liars it was relevant. But in the end of s2 one would think Sansa had already learned this lesson pretty damn well. Why would a smart man like LF make such a pointless comment?
Also I'm very confused by all the Tyrion/Shae changes. Are they going to omit Tyrion's future crime? Or they're going to make it even more horrible? Either way I don't think I'll be happy with this...
Though I did burst into tears after Shae's "you have a shit memory" line I have to admit.
Or will they make Cersei kill Shae? Cersei's suspicion about curtseying did seem... suspicious. If they lay this crime at Cersei door I'm gonna flip. Seriously. Cersei gets enough hate as it is. She doesn't need to take the blame for someone else's crimes.
All Dany seems to be doing this season is saying "I'm a mother of dragons" a lot. I was under the impression that it wasn't her only activity in book 2... But I did read it a while ago... Maybe I'm forgetting things, idk...
And they killed Irri! GRRM kills his characters just fine by himself, he doesn't need help in that department, not at all! Did they really have to do it?
I actually rather liked Ygritte even though I didn't care much about her in the books.
And btw Jack Gleeson is one of the most talented young actors I've ever seen. I feel that he's very under-appreciated. He's probably the most hated character on the show and understandably so. Jack makes you hate him so furiously with seemingly no effort at all.
In this scene though, when the Hound says "Fuck the king", Joffrey's face breaks my heart. It has to mean A LOT if in this moment I hate the Hound (my favorite character of the series) and feel for Joffrey of all people.
He's so lost and hurt. He's betrayed by the person he has known all his life, by the person he's trusted above all others, by someone he has admired and even loved (as much as Joff is capable of the feeling), and he doesn't understand why. He's so affected by this he doesn't even demand the Hound's head. He just watches him go and his world shatters to pieces.
BTW I don't think GRRM did Joffrey justice. I would have liked to see more depth in him... idk... some redeeming qualities... Instead GRRM made him evil through and through. Every person has something good about them, however small and insignificant it might be, compared to their other qualities. Seems like GRRM had just chosen an easy way out by portraying Joffrey the way he did, and I feel cheated.
So I'm glad Jack's performance is making Joffrey more human.
Now to the flailing part. Once Upon a Time.
HOLY MARY MARGARET MOTHER OF EMMA! I've never seen a show with so many strong female characters! Strong in their own different ways. It's absolutely fascinating!
And though many people are blaming the show for picking birth parents over adopted parents I don't think it's the case. I think that Henry and Regina's relationship is at their very beginning. And I kinda suspect that Swan Queen is an endgame (or at least I hope it is).
BTW the Evil Queen/Regina was the first character I fell in love with (from the moment we first see her, actually). And I thought she would be my only favorite character (I always root for misunderstood villains and very rarely care much for protagonists) until Snow and Charming decided to visit a certain dungeon, and then I had two. Is it even possible not to love Rumpelstiltskin?
And then Skin Deep happened. And I had three.
Gods, but RumBelle makes me happy!
Beauty and the Beast kind of relationship has always been my passion. And Once handled it extremely well imho. Belle is absolutely amazing! She's smart and brave and strong while being feminine which is not something one would very often see in a fantasy show. In most fantasy shows a woman is either a warrior princess or a damsel in distress. And Belle is neither. No one chooses her fate but her and I love her!
Now that she's regular I'm extremely excited about the upcoming season! :D
Also for some reason I find I rather like Henry. Which is a first since kids usually either piss me off or freak me out. Weird...
Care to share your thoughts with me? :D
