I haven't heard of Library Thing, but check out http://reader2.com/. Less about collection management and more about finding like-readers (or collectors).

There hasn't been a comparable site with the 'perfect interface' for social book cataloging, although I've heard of utilities that are compatible with bar-code readers, which we all know are somewhere in the kitchen junk drawer of every middle-class home...
