Rhode Island's continued existence fascinates me to no small degree, beginning with the fact that the state was more or less formed out of spite and seems to continue to exist based on the lone fact that it is Rhode Island and Rhode Island is neither Massachusetts nor Connecticut ever since.

It totally has its own character. If it weren't for Texas, it'd have the most individual character of any state in the Union. It is the Liechtenstein of the United States. With its own chicken and beer.
