All things being equal, I classify myself as irrational first and foremost. Now, this isn’t your mothers irrational. My, on-the-fly consistently baffling, seemingly illogical choices are actually backed by cold hard logic. Welcome to the exciting world of extreme rationalizations ( Read more... )

Seriously, I have the same problem. First of all, I may not need anything at the moment I decide to buy something. Simply perusing the catalog or e-bay gives me an itch only spending money can scratch. I get crazy thoughts in my head. “Hey, this TV is getting kind of old.” Or the slightly crazier, “My 3200+ Athlon 64 is only the 4th fastest processor on the market. Maybe I should upgrade.” The second problem arises for my desperate need to avoid cheep merchandise. I could be content with a $20 s-video switch for my devices, but when it’s time to get one, I think, “Hey, as long as I’m spending money, why not get the automatic switch.” And the deadly dance of splurging begins. And the finally, the process always ends with what else, but the need to spend more money on accessories and cables. Nothing is ever inexpensive as long as companies like Monster are around ( ... )

"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives."

Everybody has this problem, the way to keep it under control is by focusing your interests on less costly genres of merchandise. For instance, just yesterday i went to Pearl art supply on south street. I bought five, count em', five tubes of glitter for no more than 2 dollars each. It wasn't your cheap chunky craft glitter that barely glistens unless you are looking at it from half a mile back in a smelly highschool auditorium with bright spotlights shining directly on it. This shit was sublime. It was small grained and came in both holographic and iridescent versions. And at two bucks a pop, i bought every one. This purchase could keep me satisfied for half a year. Now whenever i get the urge to shop, i just open up my now brimming glitter drawer and smile. Chuck P. can suck it. Shiny merchandise can and does bring light into my life, and my only regret is that all this extra money i have lying around, because i need nothing more than cheap glitter to make me truly happy, is a flat, dull shade of shit green that i just can't find any ( ... )

Because really, how else is one supposed to shine? I say, it's the sparkly things in life that make it sweet.
