i realize i devote a sad amount of time to being annoyed by "the drive". but, y'know, you're working along to the radio all day at work, and you have time to formulate little rants in your head

Yah, Raymour & Flannigan is expensive, but nice new couch will provide you much joy. MMMMM...couch...I guess you didn't see anything good at their clearance center next door..? Though the memories of good times are always worth some bucks, you'll be enjoying your cozy redone living room for much longer. Good for you!
I only listen to WBER or the 91.5 classical station, or sometimes NPR. Mainstream commercial radio is WAY too annoying for me, I feel your rantage 100%. :)
heh, no plans to redo my living room anytime soon actually. i just find it funny that their ad guys went "hmm, the economy's shitty, gas is up, people are trying to save money... I KNOW!!! let's convince them that redecorating with expensive furniture is better than taking a vacation!" (totally missing the point that most people are cutting back on vacay to y'know... buy food. or gas. or pay the electric bill or the mortgage.)
it's just that whole nauseating buy buy buy culture that we're in, and i tend to forget how bad it is cause i don't watch TV and only listen to the radio here at work. so i'm really not exposed to many ads, except the print ones, or the ones so clever that someone sends me a youtube link :P
Oh yeah, commercials, those things I pay no attention 'cause I watch zero current TV & listen to no commercial radio..I heartily agree, the endless ramming of new buy buy buy down our throats is aggravating.
My staycation = new Wii. 'cause I bought bought bought, but I rationalize it: I don't do it very often. ;)
We'd really like a couch, to be honest. However, you've been to our apartment. That goofy twisty hallway into the living room is in no way cooperative towards getting a couch in there.
We're prolly gonna go the futon route, assuming the Great Fold-Out Bed Wars of 2000 have left some stragglers alive.
yeah i think i *am* gonna buy speakers for my ipod and bring them in. just gotta remember that i want to look for a pair when i'm in a best buy or something, cause i always space "there was something else i wanted to check out here, what was it? gah, fuckit i can't remember"
I found a really cheap portable speaker system at Big Lots (behind the counter). It is about $6-7, runs on 2 AAA batteries (get rechargables), and puts out pretty good sound for a cheap system that sits on top of your iPod. I use it when I am riding on Mesmer so I won't wear earphones under the helmet.
Might tide you over until you decide if you want to splurge on a better/less mobile set.

Problem solved.
(It's what I do.)
And didn't you know - the American answer to Everything is "conspicous consumption". What're you, some kind of communist? ;P
