What the HELL is going on in Sydney?????

It made it into the french news; but duh, it's french. I got the drift of it from some aussie news websites. I'm sure the media is just drenched in it, though, right??

Am so confused. and from what I've seen, saddened and pissed off. We're supposed to be past this.

OMG I know Dot ... I'm disgusted at what has happened. Basically a whole groupe of people (when I say group I mean HUGE mob) attacked all the people who looked of Muslim background ... I saw pics of guys running around with Aussie flags screaming "Our Town" and buring the Aussie flag. I mean it's fucking wrong what they did we're supposed to be a multicultural society. And what's worse is a few days ago they tried to attack a Mosque and a whole group of Muslim men and the police had to go and protect it. And now the Muslim people are retaliating and targeting things like primary schools having carol services and shit like that!!! I mean last night a woman got STABBED. It's just fucking disgusting. Soz I'm really pissed off about this

It all started down at Cronulla, when a few people who LOOKED Middle Eastern -- I'm not sure if anything's been clarified, attacked some life guards. Caucasians retaliated, and there was a rumour that they were going to attack the mosque at Lakemba so muslims surrounded it to protect it.

The violence is just continuing and the NSW government granted emergency powers to the police to lock down areas and confiscate things and all this other stuff.

It's scary, to say the least.

I know. It's really scary. One minute we're happily existing and the next we're faced with this. I honestly thought Australia and it's people were above that.

Yeah, my sister and her boyfriend (who's from Sydney) are planning on going there for a couple of weeks after New Years, but she keeps saying she doesn't want to go, because according to her boyfriend's mum it's like being stuck in the middle of a war (possibly an over-exaggeration, but still creepy).

On another OT note, I must ask: WHO is that in your display pic??

Oh, the beautiful kissing men?

They're Hamish Blake and Adam Hills, two Melbournian comedians who are involved in a comedy show called Spicks and Specks. I haven't actually seen it (I AM in France after all), but they definitely kissed on the christmas special.
