Last week amid the failing of WaMu and various other markers of widespread fear of financial downfall, I thought aloud to friends, "I wonder when my bank is going to go under?"

Well, witch vibe, it happened.  I guess now I'm a Citi Group customer?

Your money is FDIC insured up to $100,000, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. Unless you have more than $100,000. And if so, what's your secret?

Not that I honestly think we're on the verge of some major collapse anyway, the news just wants to scare people.

Thanks for the reassurance. I have a meager fraction of what the FDIC insures, so I'm in no danger of that collapsing.

We are absolutely not on the verge of some collapse. Of that I am almost positive. People are just animals and reason hardly ever wins out.

If you ever do get $100,000, just break it up and put it in different banks. I guess I am now a CitiGroup customer as well, but I'm not frettin'. Actually this tanking economy business has hardly hit me at all--it's pretty stable here in military-land Virginia. (The older people at work are telling me to put my money under my mattress...)

ah, another wachovia customer, i see. my old bank was bought by wachovia and the only changes i ever saw were new check cards and checks. i don't think it'll affect most people much more than that.
