Did you know shock collars don't hurt dogs?

True story. And anyway life shouldn't be all rainbows and flowers for dogs, cause it isn't for humans either! Who cares if the dog in question is blind, the invisible fence works for everyone!

What the good goddamn was that person on about? Tie-outs automatically traumatize a dog no matter how you use one? Yet shock collars are a-okay?

My friend's dog is blind and they would never use a shock collar or electronic fence. They take her out on a leash and supervise her constantly.

I just don't understand how someone thinks a tie-out is horrible but will endorse shock collars. If a tie-out is used responsibly, there will be no trauma or aggression issues.

Oh yeah, that's another thing that was weird! Like, the consensus is "of course you will be leaving the dog outside unsupervised for 9/10ths of the day, and you will either be doing that with a fence or a tieout/shock collar." No acknowledgment at all that you maybe shouldn't leave your dog unattended outside for long enough to go crazy on a tieout period.

Exactly!

My friend's yard isn't fenced either but her dogs are never let outside without being on a leash and supervised.

I have two excitable terriers and have never had a fenced yard, so except for trips to the dog park and whatnot (which we do a lot), they have been leashed outside every single day they've spent with me. So I was a little blown away by that discussion.

I am somewhat concerned about the exercise situation for 99% of America's dogs.

It almost reads like someone just decided to be a troll today.

Looking at the usernames there, I am really not surprised.

For some reason, there's been an influx of insane furries into SPO. (Note: not all furries are insane. Or at least not in a pejorative sense.)

Just because it just occurred to me, you'd think furries would be more vocal about humane treatment towards animals, y/n?

You would think so, but based on the (insane and not representative of the fandom as a whole) furries that've popped up lately, it seems to be more about letting animals live NATURAL, WILD LIVES than responsible animal ownership.

I was going to say animal husbandry, but that just made me think of the guy who married his horse. nnnrrrgh brain bleach

For some reason, the few I'm thinking about specifically are pretty vocal about punishment, shocking animals, and doing whatever they can to be against anything that makes it illegal to do whatever you want to animals, including cut their vocal chords, declaw them, cut their tails or ears, etc. Nothing about that is natural or wild, so what gives?

I just can't connect people who want to be or think they are non-human animals and treating animals like shit.

Also, there is no need to bring up that guy. That's just playing dirty.
