I'm divorced so I get that sometimes ending a marriage is the most compassionate thing but it's almost never a good thing. However, her reaction was crass and boorish. There's nothing a body likes more than a hearty congratulations when Mom runs off to live with her young boyfriend. I think the guy should have punched her in the nose.
Well, it's about multiple relationships see! His friend's mom was with his dad but is now with her boyfriend! TOTES POLYAMORY!!!
My personal opinion? OP was seeking reaffirmation that they are indeed special and more advanced than their friend because they *just don't get* how their friend could be upset.
I'm with you on ending a bad situation is compassionate; I just closed the door on a relationship that went at least a year past its true expiration date and I'm pretty sure that there's relief all around that it's finally over. I'm also with you on the "where the fuck is the empathy?" bit.
on one hand, breakups are good for everyone and sometimes they have to happen- you go girl!
on the same hand, how dare that hussy get knocked up, marry and subsequently break up with the man friend i am totally jonesing for even though it has been clear to me through all these years that they really shoulda broken up like forever ago? how ever will his precious heart heal and fuck you bitch for forcing me to remind him that i knew better because now he will never forgive me. i am judging you sluts SO HARD.
Oh boy, that roykay is a real jackass isn't he? I know that *I* did such a bang up job of caring for myself when I left home art that age. But I forgot, he's very evolved and such a sack of the hottie hotness that of course he must be right.
Actually I'm dumbfounded by the number of people defending the OP and her warm fuzzy attitude. They don't seem to remember, "Oh my friend is sad. I'll be compassionate and supportive even if I don't understand why they are upset".
Other peoples' pain, it's not about you and your life choices.
Butbutbut, he's POLY! Therefore he is a SEXUAL MINORITY and that means he has a get out of all other privilege free card!

Pretty much unrelated, I'd just like to say that it always makes me happy to see your userpic in a thread. A little because it's a very striking portrait (your hair is so awesome!), but mostly because it means you're going to say something interesting and sensible and worth reading.
I know you don't know me from Eve, but I figured I would let you know that you're appreciated. Have a good day!
Oh my gracious! You just made my day. Thank you! It's all gray and snowing and freezing here, will be from now until about May, and I do not fare well in winter. The compliment couldn't be better timed. :)

BTW: That post has *what* to do with polyamory?

A lack of ability to understand people is not a sign of enlightenment! :oP Especially when we're talking about basic and common emotional responses.
