[OOC] Screened Crit Post

Jun 30, 2015 23:45

MAGICALLY DATED INTO THE FUTURE so that it will hopefully stay at the top of my journal.

Since my app was really damn borderline, here's a crit post in advance. Technically you can use it for all my characters - Ishida, Mal, Roxas, Shin, Phoenix, and Raquel are my alts - but it's mostly intended for Kurogane, since he was the problem app. D: ( Read more... )

crit, ooc

I don't usually pay attention to CFUD but my roommate does, and she pointed out that a TRC character had gotten in so I had to look. I absolutely adore Kurogane (he's the main character in my fanfic) so I'm glad that you are playing him in all his grumpy ninja glory. ^^ I noticed that you've got a number of icons with Fai in them as well - has someone applied to play Fai? :hopeful:

Oh man, you totally scared me for a moment there! I took one glance at the reply and was terrified that I'd done something horribly wrong in my first day of playing. (Thank you for the feedback on the app, by the way - I'll reply to that comment in a moment.)

Thanks! Kurogane is totally my favorite character from TRC. Hopefully I can do him justice. ♥ Unfortunately, we do not have a Fay at the moment. There have been apps for all four of the main TRC characters at various points - Kurogane included! - but I'm the first one who has actually managed to get in. Some canons are kinda cursed until the first character makes it in, I've noticed. Final Fantasy used to be the exact same way.

Would you mind if I unscreened your comments? Or at least this thread's comments? I'm not exactly sure how a screened post handles comment replies. (I'm unscreening my own comment just to be safe.)

Ahahah, you have sinned! I am CLAMP in the flesh, come to punish you for OOCness.... note to self, lay off the happy pills.

I'm surprised! 3 xxxHolic characters have made it in. But now that you're in, someone playing Fai would have a better shot, I think (Fai could be looking for his missing puppy companion in the application, which is quite plausible.)

Err, I don't care if you unscreen stuff. If I were going to say something horrible, I'd do it in an e-mail. ♥

That makes me wonder what CLAMP punishments would be like. SO KUROGANE IS YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER, HMM. YOU'RE RPING HIM WRONG. Eye-gouging time! :Dd

I am really hoping so. I don't remember how the xxxHolic apps went, exactly, but I thiiiink we had a few failed Watanuki apps before someone finally got in (borderline?), with the other characters to follow. Legal Drug also had one character get in before the other, if I remember correctly. All the other CLAMP applications have been lone (or almost lone - we have a Subaru and a Hokuto, for example) canon warriors.

Gotcha. ♥ I figured as much, but I didn't think it fair to unscreen on a post that I had basically promised would be a screened crit post.

Out of idle curiosity: what's your roommate's LJ name, if she has one (and if you feel like disclosing)? Maybe it's an audience member I recognize.

Ah, I looked at your application, and I think I can conjecture as to why it was borderline. The application itself was fine - but Kurogane (from my own experience) is a character who takes awhile to warm up to. At first, I thought Kurogane was a typical, dull, explosive-seme type and I didn't care for him in the manga (I kept reading for Fai.) But as we know, he's actually quite insightful -somewhat zen as of late - and has a caring side (and can be even be a little shy!) However, those aspects of his character don't come out unless he's interacting with other characters - characters that he's known for awhile. He doesn't trust easily or admit his feelings readily...

I think his character will shine more in the game as he continues to interact with other characters and build relationships.

Disclaimer: I'm a fanfic writer, not a role-player although I have read roleplays before.

I think you've just summed up most the problems I had writing the app. Like you said, Kurogane is a character who doesn't really shine until he's bouncing off other people - which is something almost entirely impossible to manage in our apping format. Navigating a balance between character depth and TEH LULZ is easily the most difficult part about apping for this game ( ... )

Tee hee. Yes, you definitely set THE BIG BAD NINJA up for a topping. And there are plenty of characters whose personalities will lead them to challenge him (which will make his aggressive side happy.)

A) Love the way you play Kurogane. He's just so big and out of his depth and it makes me want to hug hiiiiim. >.>

B) I like the whole catching up with the manga thing, but what happens if Kuro DIES? T^T

(Replying to you here! That'll unscreen your comment, sorry. D: If you'd like me to rescreen it for any reason, please let me know. ♥)

A) E-eee, thank you! I really really adore playing him, so hearing that other people like my interpretation makes me severely happy inside. ♥

B) ... I will MAKE FACES AND THROW FITS, DAMN YOU CLAMP. D: More practically speaking: we'll deal with it somehow. There's dead characters already in camp, after all, so... There's no way I'm letting him go even that happens.

Can you explain the reasoning behind Kurogane and Fay's recent change into animals due to trying to have sex... again?

From the series, the Kurogane that I remember, would never blatantly try to break the rules with a consequence like that, especially more than once. It almost seems gratuitous.
As much as I like the Kurogane/Fay relationship in canon, I have to say that in camp, I'm almost disappointed with how blatant they are. Random Japanese aside, it's almost a bit jarring to read how open they are with it, especially since it seemed to occur less than a month after Fay got into camp...! I know this is a crit directed toward both of the muns, but yours was the crit post I saw first, so I apologize. I know you'd be sharing with Fay-mun anyway.
I would love to hear your thoughts, both yours and hers. :)

My reply is going to unscreen your comment; if you would like me to rescreen it at anytime, please let me know and I will do so.

I'm going to address your second point first, mostly because it helps me wheel back around to the first one, which is a bit tricky to give a flat answer that isn't "because we play all our threads by ear, and that's the way that particular one turned out."

First of all: timing. I don't remember the specific point at which they became ... official ... ish? in camp, mostly because we play them so damned often that all the threads tend to run together after a while. If you say it's a month after Fay got into camp, I'll take your word for it. (Mostly because my memory sucks and a month sounds about right anyway.) It may very well look different to an outside observer, but to someone RPing them on the inside, a month is a fairly decent stretch of time. Particularly the opening month, which is doubly intense due to the NEW SHINY WHEE that we were particularly engaging in due to the fact that we're both ( ... )

As for timing, I'll be honest and say that... you know, I'm honestly not certain where I got the "less than a month" timeframe from now. I know your threads are very long and many in number, so... yes. I BELIEVE it was a month because that's when I first noticed? Sorry ( ... )

A month honestly does sound about right! I just don't remember specifically because ... yes. Memory, lots of threads, squished together, etc.

Completely understandable, heh! We're kind of spamwhores. The post is here, with the individual thread being here, although technically speaking it's all one. long. thread. I assumed that you had been following along since you touched on that one specifically -- my bad! That thread is probably going to look like another instance of moving too fast, for which I apologize in advance. I can certainly clarify my reasoning on that part as well, if you would like; I'm considering writing an essay on the relationship, now that you've brought up the subject. Either way, rest assured that I am personally planning to handle things a bit more slowly in the future, especially in light of your criticism.

Not a problem! I am always glad to clarify and the like. Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. >_> Debated whether or not to actually chime in, but in the end I figured that it couldn't really hurt and might possibly help. In regards to the recent comment about Kuro/Fay moving too fast in Camp...honestly, I think I can see where the anonymous is coming from. Sometimes, especially towards the beginning of your guys' threads, it did feel like things were moving kind of at the speed of light. (That seems to have eased up some now, even with the most recent...developments. >P ( ... )

Eep, I'm really sorry about the speed then. Especially with two people pointing it out, orz. XD; WE WILL TRY TO BE BETTER IN THE FUTURE and I apologize for rushing stuff near the beginning. It is unfortunately a personal RP bad habit of mine to jump straight into my relationships, mostly 'cause I get excited about stuff and ... well, anyway. We probably did take it too quickly, but there's not a whole lot to do about it now (save to admit that, yeah, we did go too fast, and to take things a bit slower in the future ( ... )

Oh dear sweet lords no, please don't beat yourself up about the speed! >_< Like I said, it's something that I did notice and especially towards the beginning, but NOT something that I think was necessarily wrong, or that didn't make sense with the situation that you two had, or that really detracted from the developments themselves! Being trapped in (figuratively) close quarters with absolutely nothing to do and only one person you really have a connection and a history with is a pretty damn volatile situation. And like YOU said before, it did take an entire month (at least) for them to officially get "together," and in player- (and character-)land that's actually a fair amount of time. So…yeah.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF LITTLE BABY TURKEYS, MUN, PLEASE DO NOT APOLOGIZE FOR THE JAPANESE!!!11!!1! O-ORZ, talk about shooting myself in the foot. ;___; There was a reason I put “random Japanese” into quotations above, and obviously I should have been more explicit. I…actually kind of loved it!!? The fact that not only did you two ( ... )

Okay, okay, I gotcha. ♥ Thank you for the clarification! I really appreciate getting differing opinions on the subject, and I certainly won't disagree with someone who's agreeing with me, ahaha. XD We will certainly be thoughtful about the speed of our relationship in the future, one way or the other.

E-eep SORRY I misunderstood you then. XD;; STILL I am glad that you don't think it's fangirly, at least. Would it be better if we translated the stuff we say in the future, if we do so later on? (At least vaguely, anyway -- their discussion about different ways to say "I love you" would require ... rather long footnotes about Japanese and culture. But a simple translation would be easy for us to include.)
