Oh Gahd, you don't know how much I'm itching to write Purgatory!fic, but I'm embroiled in RR! This is a lovely - if that's the right word! - little vignette with so much in between the lines about how these friends are finding each other again, and Dean's admission that he trusts Cas is one I'd love to hear in 8.01. And this:
…for a moment he becomes part of the uncanniness around them…
Purgatory ficlets will be the undoing of many--all this sneaking off to write Purgatory ficlets. Okay, just one more ficlet this week and THAT IS IT. Look, we can stop writing Purgatory ficlets any time we want to, we all can, just as soon as we write a few more based on those photos on tumblr...
\o/ Thank you! I enjoyed writing this, trying to figure out how they'd act together now. My thought was the circumstances push Cas to drop a lot of the bee-watching detachment shield although I think his PTSD would still manifest, but we've seen in canon how Dean in peril puts Cas back into battle focus mode. Maybe that last confrontation with Dick changed things for him--we don't know. And Dean trusting Cas in Purgatory--I kind of think once they're home safe again, the trust issues between them might surface and they still have things to resolve, but in their current situation, they're watching each other's backs, and deep down the trust isn't permanently broken.
Thank you! :D Yes, actually there is another one which needs to be reposted to LJ. Tumblr is crawling with photographs that are crying out to be Purgatory fic prompts, people are running with it, it's so much fun. Who knows how many I'll write?
The thought of Dean and Cas watching out for each other in Purgatory makes me happy. I have ideas on how this crisis pushes Cas to put aside the bee-watching evasiveness, because he has to. He still has PTSD, he's not fixed, but we saw in canon how Dean in peril makes Cas snap back to warrior mode. While Dean also isn't burying himself in fighting monsters to hide from himself, it's more like he can't avoid himself there and while being stuck in Purgatory sucks, Dean being able to fight back physically makes it less horrific for him than when he was on the rack in Hell.

I really hope Cas pulls it together sanity-wise enough to help Dean out substantially. I hope they help each other, really!
