I love this: the thought that Cas can maybe be what he once was when it's Dean who is at stake, and how he sobers up so he can take care of Dean.
I love this whole thing, its sadness, how mundane camp life is, and the feeling that all of these people really care for Dean's welfare. And all undercut by the melancholy derived from that missing person, and Dean can't hide his sadness and vulnerability even if he tries, and he wants to preserve the books as some sort of proof that his brother was there. And Bobby, oh…
Tho I love End!verse there always is that sadness with knowing how it all ends for them, and it's especially sad with that image of Dean and Cas holding onto each other at the end... it makes me think of that cut line from the script about how all they had left was each other. ;_;
Beautiful, bb. You have such an economic and precise way of writing sequences of words that evoke real depth of feeling despite their surface simplicity: it's a real gift...

This Dean has frozen himself off and built up such a thick armor, more successfully than regular flavor Dean ever has even though regular Dean certainly tries to bury and bury things but 2014!Dean has managed to keep a hard shell in place. But the shell is just a shell and it's to cover the vulnerable spots underneath. So writing his pov and having him be both things at once, and be hurting so much underneath was tricky, I'm so glad it worked!
Thank you for the lovely comment! ♥♥♥
