I stopped at one of the many sizable electronics stores to pick up a new gadget. When I went to the counter and paid for it, the clerk asked me if I wanted a flower. I had her repeat herself just to make sure that I had heard her right. She told me to pick out a flower and pointed to a rack of potted plants next to the register. Now perhaps I' ( Read more... )

Slow news week?!?!? You got a plant at an electronics store! I'd say that's pretty fantastic!

Did you have to pay for it, or did it come complementary with your new gadget (which was...?)?

No, they just gave it to me. They also threw in a mouse that has extra USB ports on the sides. I guess they figured that a poor soul like me doesn't get away from the computer enough to see plants in their natural habitat, and also doesn't have enough USB ports to keep up with all of the free stuff that gets thrown at you in Taiwanese electronics stores. So now I have a wee little plant that perhaps someday will produce a flower and a mouse with extra ports. Also, a media player -- I'd call it an mp3 player, but it also plays movies and radio and displays ebooks. On the box, it's called an mp5 player, which I suppose is two better than an mp3 player, but I can't for the life of me figure out what an mp5 is. My last mp3 player held a whopping 96Mb, and I left it in Wisconsin so I figured it was time for a step up. This new thingy carries 4Gb, so I can carry a whole season of Dr. Who around in my pocket, you know, just in case I need a season of Dr. Who at the drop of a hat ( ... )

That is the coolest thing I've heard in at least two days!!

Getting a free plant when you buy a media player...ah, life, you never cease to delight me!

So, what else does the plant do, besides being a plant?

Those Taiwanese electronics are amazing, aren't they?

Aside from just being a plant, it makes my fake plant feel bad for not being real. Since it came from the rack at an electronics store, I wouldn't be surprised if one could twist it into the shape of Optimus Prime and engage in glorious battle with the Decepticons, although since it was made in Taiwan it probably comes with the left leg pre-broken.
