Superman Returns

Knew I'd left my movie squee around here somewhere.

So, here's the thing. Never been much on the big blue guy. I'm more of a batfamily fangirl, that's no shock.

Still, I've always liked Superman. Whether in the comics or the movies or on Justice League, he always seems to bring a sense of comfort. I grew up on the Christopher Reeve movies, and ( Read more... )

I'm glad you loved it, too. I feel better. There are so few people who seemed to enjoy it at the level I did. It was very moving for all the reasons you mention. And I nearly cried and feel to pieces when Superman gots beaten up. Noooo! You can't do that!!!

It's just so hard seeing Superman like that. He's Superman!

Kryptonite has been responsible for some of the silliest, and some of the most moving, Superman material. Ah, kryptonite.

Saying the word "kryptonite" makes me giggle now because of how Kevin Spacey says it when they're on the island, with that silly rolling rrrrrr. Heee, I'm laughing at work right now just thinking about it.

It's really, really, really nice to see other Bat-fans embracing this, too, by the by. It's almost like my loyalty is being tested, but I know better. Really.

Our loyalty isn't being tested--seems unlikely either of us will switch from being bat-girls to superman-girls. As I said earlier, though, I have always rather liked him. His presence makes me not worry about the chances of the other characters surviving. He's everyone's big brother and protector, he's truly a Nice Guy, he's handsome, and he honestly does love the whole world. The problem is that's hard to obsess about. My favorite DC characters are the messier ones like Bruce, Dick, Roy, Ollie, Wally, Barbara, Jim. Some of the ones on that list are more flawed and screwed up than others.

What this movie got at wasn't the darker side of Superman (which Justice League Unlimited did a good job of hinting at) but the lost, displaced orphan, the guy with a huge heart. And that's hard to resist.

You don't want this one spoiled. I think you'll like it. We both like our heroes complex but just a wee bit idealized *g*

I'm up for another viewing. Yes! Incredible but true, I am willing to pay up to $11 to see it a second time!

Maybe after POTC...

You're willing to pay to see it again? That's a hell of a reccomendation.

Little bro already asked me to see it w/ him and i originally declined, but if he still wants to go, I will go with him. (sorry, little bro trumps in this case.)

Yeah. You know I liked something when I'm willing to pay a full theater price. I could wait for the DVD with extra scenes. But it's a very visual film, needs to be seen on a big screen.

No prob. I hope you both like it :)

See, I thought she said something along the lines of "He's your son."

Because as soon as he wakes up, he goes to see the kid, and do the father whispering thing.

Also, the way she looks at her son before and after saying it.
