Comic news and rec

Jul 20, 2006 20:10

So, thanks to my friend La, who pointed me to the news that Slave Labor Graphics is going back to press on Gargoyles #1, after an initial print of 10,000 copies. (And they live again!)

Also, laudre went and did a post about why people should read the comic book series Invincible by Robert Kirkman. I think he sums it up just right when he says You don't ( Read more... )

I was kinda disappointed by the Gargoyles comic, honestly. Greg seems to be a better TV writer than comic writer, and the penciller has real problems (the inker/colorist did a lot to hide it, but, seriously, new artist now).

And, yeah, stuff out there is spoilerrific about Invincible, but at least the Wikipedia article is cleared marked as such.

So, where are you? I'm not sure if I count as "local people" or not.

NYC. The only reason I'm not willing to mail the trade paperbacks to people in other states is they might get lost in the mail! *clings to her Invincible tpb's* Plus, it's just easier to loan local.

Understood. Plus it's easier to poke people and remind them to return something if they're local.

Yay I am so glad the Gargoyles comic is doing well. I'm assuming the next one will be out soon.... Can't wait to get past the first few issues and into new plot stuff. It's amazing that a show dead 10 years ago can make any kind of comeback. *dances*

Isn't it though? Sadly I did not make it, but it's credited in my userpics if you feel the urge to steal it. :)

*dances with you* My show is not dead! Well, okay, it's dead as an animated TV series but the CANON is not dead! (It was my Very First Fandom, you know :)

While I agree with laudre that the first issue's a little weak, I still want to know when the second issue's coming out already. (And why Jim Hanley's doesn't seem to be carrying the book. I had to go to Midtown Comics for it.)

I was just at Midtown, they're charging $6 for it now? Is that right? It's a hot item.

My gosh; I didn't expect it to take off like that.

Truthfully? Neither did I. I squeed out loud when I heard it was going back to press. 10,000 isn't a runaway hit in comic book terms, but it's not too shabby either, especially when the publisher has to print more to meet the demand.

Ooh, I'd like to borrow. I'm local. Really. The PATH will not eat your beloved comic book, I promise. :)

Absolutely. darkling1 is interested too. I'll bring volume one to the next WG and you can give it to him when you're done?
