except Andie's motivations in dating Blane are purer than Keith's in dating Amanda
What do you see as Keith's motivation and how is it less pure than Andie's?
Btw, my favorite John Hughs moment is when Amanda tells Keith that she'd rather be alone for the right reasons than with soemone for the wrong. then she gives him back teh earings and tells him to go after Watts. *sigh* Well, that and when Duncan and his friends crash the party.

I think Keith is using Amanda, and he's truthful to himself about this. In many ways he likes her for herself--she's pretty, and she's nice. But she's a symbol to him, a way to prove he means something.
Well, maybe that *is* what Blane represents to Andie. But with Andie I felt like her crush was really based solely on Blane. He wasn't a symbol to her--she crushed on him *despite* his political status at school.
Also: Steff has it bad for Andie. He does. I love Blane telling him at the end that Steff couldn't buy Andie and that kills Steff and Steff knows Andie thinks he's shit.
My favorite: too many to choose but right now I'm thinking The Breakfast Club when Claire kisses Bender's neck.
Haven't actually seen. All I know is "I can't watch that anymore because lunchbox here, starts crying, and there is nothing worse than watching a fat man weep..."

Maybe I can use youth as an excuse, but I must admit that I did not see Pretty in pink until after seeing "Not Another Teen Movie". I must also express gratitude for that rental shop a half mile outside Pioneer Kasserne in Germany that has older 80s movies...I have yet to see Some Kind of Wonderful but I can add that to my Netflix.
I must admit that among the John Hughes films I watched my favorite would be Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but for the brat pack genre, it would be The Breakfast Club. My favorite scene is probably at the end when AM Hall declares that each student happens to be all of the characters the Principal thought of him as, as well as when the VP and the janitor are having their own conversation to parallel the students.

Some Kind of Wonderful is a really good movie, probably among the best of the John Hughes work--only The Breakfast Club stands above that one for me.
PT&A is a funny movie. But I'm really only an enthusiast for his "teen angst" genre stuff. The only high school setting one of his I don't own is Weird Science; I'm debating whether I need to own that or if I'd get tired of it. It's good, but not as great as the other ones.

But I'm really only an enthusiast for his "teen angst" genre stuff. I kinda guessed that, especially since your teenage years were in the 80s while mine were in the early 90s, but I've always been fond of the 80s (I have even have Village people's Ready for the 80s on my ipod).
I personally prefer the Weird Science TV show (well there is the Vanessa Angel factor for me), though the movie was good fun. I don't know what your thoughts on Not Another Teen movie were, but I imagine you'd enjoy guessing the John Hughes references in it...the HS was in fact named John Hughes High.
BTW, The Breakfast Club would be more fun if AM Halls's character walked out with both Claire and Allison, then put on a a fedora and winked :)
Your comments seem pretty accurate to me. Didn't John Hughes make Some Kind of Wonderful basically as an appology for the end of PiP?
I don't know if I can pick a favorite JH scene. All of The Breakfast Club? I love when they all get high or when Allison steals the patch off Andrew's letterman's jacket at the end (that part always cracks me up for some reason).

I've heard that somewhere before, yeah. That he wasn't happy with the ending of PIP and SKoW made up for it.
It's the way Allison looks there, the little stompy-feet thing she does. Not like a challenge, but almost--as if she wants him to take note she's taking his letterman jacket patch.
I think for her that was flirting. Heh, he seemed to respond. Also I like that it shows that despite Claire's makeover she's still got the same personality.
The Breakfast Club is one of my favorite movies period. I like the scene where Anthony Michael Hall is talking about not getting the lamp to light up or whatever it was. When you're a smart kid and something makes you feel stupid, it's no fun.

Jon Cryer is fabulous in it. It's really his movie, and that's a tough thing to do in a movie that has Annie Potts AND James Spader in it.
