Hobbit holes and Life on Mars

HGTV was on in the background a little while ago, the sound muted. The house they were looking at had a familiar feel to it, low ceilings, round doors, cozy kitchen with a big window. It had a nautical theme but I immediately thought, "Huh. Looks like Bag End." So I unmuted and sure 'nuf, the person who designed the house was trying to make a ( Read more... )

Ha! Love it cause it is sooo true. Glad you're all caught up now. See what I meant about Sam getting even more um, woobier. Also I loved how they used "Life on Mars" again in the last episode when he realizes what's going on with his dad, etc. Poor Sam. (Is there something about guys named Sam being woobies? Or is it just me?)

PS. Don't forget to check if I'm on whatever filter it was that we weren't sure if I was on. (Gee that could have been clearer ^^;; )

Oh, don't think I wasn't laughing over the name. What is it with me and male-bonding shows with guys named Sam?

And when DCI Hunt used the paperclip to pick the handcuff lock I about fell OVER.

You're on the filter.

Yay! I'm special.

At least there's no one called Dean on LoM. But they do have the spiffy 70s cars.

I love that show too! I love the way it manages to do male bonding with that clash of 2006 vs. 1973 versions, somehow.

*nods* Which seems to be linked to the role of women in 1973. Annie is intelligent and cool-headed, yet she's very much Sam's sidekick/moral compass, which is a quaint role for women to have. Very different from his girlfriend in 2006 (although both are imperiled to raise the drama for Sam). And to see how the department treats Annie. Sam's a product of 2006, so he treats her better, yet still he doesn't treat her with the same eye-to-eye he does DCI Hunt. Or am I reading too much into that?
