Today at the Prefect Inauguration (they called it some other name I can't remember) as the national anthem played, I felt the strong urge to not stand up

So what did you think of the Prefects Investiture?bustinjustinOctober 16 2004, 11:51:49 UTC
So yeah, what do you think about it? Not that the disappearance of Australia's values is unimportant, but yeah...you don't have to answer I was just being dumb.

That's the word they used! I still prefer the word inauguration.
It was alright. I'm happy that you're the senior prefect, Peter Xie is the vice captain and Daniel is el capitano. But what I didn't like was how Ms Irvine described us (not in these words, but this seemed the message) as the scum of the school that feed off these omnipotent bodies of all glory such as Ben de Cruz.
Yes, yes, I'm still partially bitter that I didn't make prefect when de Cruz, Nguyen and Zographakis did. But don't worry, I'll be fine

hehehe..you're not alone with feeling bitter, though the objects of bitterness and spite differ between rejects, i mean those who were robbed...j/k you were robbed!

Justin, you're either turning into a patronising prefect we'll all hate. Or just a guy making cruel jokes once and awhile....like me. So I can't scold you or anythin'.
Redneck Wonderland... doo doo do do do do do do do dooooo... that's the wrong number of doo's.aureyaofchocOctober 17 2004, 09:08:00 UTC
Hmm, okay, I get the feeling that I'm gonna get hurt badly for this but hey, I'll say it anyway...
Mmkay, this is largely Caine's fault that I'm saying this, becuase before I talked to him, I was just as anti-John Howard as you and the rest of us are. But like.. he sorta seemed to have a bit of a point...
ARGH, stop throwing things at me!!!! Just hear me out, okay?
For the record, I still think Howard is a dick and we shouldn't have voted him in. But I also am sorta starting to understand why 52% of the country voted for him.
Yeah, including Caine. Did I tell you Caine voted for Howard? I think I did but I can't remember for sure... Yeah, anyway, Caine voted for Howard.
We'll start with the Tampa issue since this pisses you off the most.
No, no, wait, before I say anything that's gonna make you wanna hurt me. I have to stress that the whole gay-marriage-sucks-I'm-going-with-America-on-the-FMA-cos-I-suck thing pissed me off just as much as it did the rest of us. And I think he deserves to burn in hell for that
( ... )
77% of Aussies are racist, if y'a here, I'll say it to your facesdottoOctober 18 2004, 00:59:07 UTC
I guess I can understand it, too. I knew many people supported Howard's actions on the Tampa. After all, the song that is currently my Anthem is called 77%, it's called so because 77% of Australians AGREED with him on the issue. I personally see blocking out refugees who come here on leaky boats leaving their homeland risking life and limb heartless. And the reason why many refugees from the Middle East turn violent in Austrlaia is because most Austrlaians still have a prejudice against them. That and our detention centres
( ... )
on the contrary, i'd say caine *is* a heartless bastard.. or at least, incredibly self centered. If caine had any basic interest in human rights he would not vote for a man who refuses to let sick, starving children seek refuge in australia, who refuses to acknowledge the stolen generation, who refuses to treat homosexuals as human beings, who refuses to give public school students an equal chance, who refuses to stop aggrivating other countries... ... ...
i realise that this is kinda late... but i don't think there's any reason not to stand for the national anthem just coz our government sucks... the two things have nothing to do with each other. you should always be proud of the national anthem and you should always be proud to be australian. the national anthem in no way endorses our government; think about it... our anthem sings of multiculturalism, freedom, equality and reward for work. You should be proud to have an anthem that doesn't get bogged down with religious and/or pseudo-political bs.
