I support stem cell research. I think we have a responsibility to explore subjects of study that could improve life; this is a responsibility that has been passed on to us from all previous generations and it cannot be shirked by a fearful minority that prefers to look fondly on a past that never existed. That being said the opposition to stem cell research isn't that unsurprising; pretty much every new technology from innoculations to television sets have been met first with paranoia, moralism, and panic before becoming accepted as so every day it is unworthy of comment. Stem cell research also needs to be understood better. While it would allow for advancements in cloning technologies it won't lead to the cloning of headless bodies or designer infants - in fact it's one of the only coloning technologies that defies such ideas by making them unncessary (why clone a whole new person after death when you can clone the failing organ that led to their death?). i think bush replaced all kinds of things with war, and none of it progressive.

i think adult stem cell research is much more promising, and is actually being used sucessfully to regrow bone, heal sicknesses, and even healed one woman to where she could walk again after 11 years (or something). stem cell research hasn't shown any signs of "breakthrough science" as promised. i heard the one story on the news of them being able to implant your cell into an egg and then pulling the stem out, but that's not anything new, the cloners have been doing that for years.

oh yeah, i should mention that this whole debate about stem cell research is actually pretty dumb anyway since the debate is abotu government funding of stem cell research. i don't believe it is the government's job to use tax dollars on this. it's not a debate of if it should be legal or not, for research is going on already for this, but the debate is about where they get their funding. the constitution offers no provisions to fund programs like this.
