If you need an icon, any icon, and don't know where to go, go to icons as that is where people put icons they've made up for grabs. Then, on your lj, up at the top where it is blue, put your cursor thingy over Manage then move it down and over to User Pictures and click on that--that is where the icons are uploaded.
Now, I will tell the truth--I had someone else do mine for me but it isn't too difficult once you know how to get things going.
