I played this at GPNW this year. It's a lot of fun!

Wow! From what I've read about it in his journal, I'd have guessed it was simple enough to not require that much "gear." Also, pretty pretty dice! Mythender sounds really fun and interesting.

what the hell could one want that many die for?

Well, to be fair, that's the dice pile needed to run a 4-5 player session of this game without anybody needing to share or bring their own. Each single player would probably be fine with a 36-block of d6s plus another 10 or so of another color.

The game treats dice held in your hand as a tactile vector into the game, as you continually gain and lose dice throughout play. You could play with much less and write down every change, but in my experience those games of Mythender feel diminished -- because it relies on you "feeling" the game, literally and figuratively.

Ryan told me about the game, but I don't remember any need for tokens. What are the tokens on the left for?

I think one pile of tokens are Might tokens, and the pile of non-die jewel-things are for Lightning points, which are used to generate damage.

Where's the flask? That's a definite part of the Mythender gear.

Only at BarCon. In a home, once can make due with a bottle and glasses.
